UNDERSTANDING
Young southwest Florida professionals increasing awareness and understanding of mental illness and the research that supports its cure.

HOPE
Someone you care about lives with a mental illness or brain disorder.

STRENGTH
Your friend, lover, mother, father, brother, sister, neighbor, cousin, aunt, uncle, co-worker, teammate...

AWARENESS
...or, maybe it's you. One in five Americans is affected by a mental illness - about 44 million people. Four of the 10 leading causes of disability in the United States are mental disorders, including depression and schizophrenia.

TREATMENTS
But, there's good news... Scientists around the world are accelerating their research into the causes and treatments of mental illnesses and brin disorders. Each day brings new hope for more effective treatment, if not cures.

COMMUNITY
Their research has developed effective treatments that combat the symptoms of mental illnesses, tested techniques that help people to manage threats to their mental health, designed community programs that help people recover more quickly, and initiated policies that support long-term resilience, recovery and empowerment.

SUPPORT
Join us. The mission of the Sunshine From Darkness Junior Committee is to increase awareness of mental illnesses and brain disorders among Southwest Florida teen-agers and young adults and to reduce the stigma that surrounds patients and their families.
